2026-09-16White Sox split first two games of pivotal Cleveland series
Chicago won the series opener 7-3 on Sept. 14 behind a six-run sixth inning, then lost 7-6 on Sept. 15 as Cleveland's Brayan Rocchio delivered the deciding hit. The White Sox lead the division; Wednesday's finale pits Anthony Kay against Parker Messick.
White Sox recall pitching prospect Noah Schultz, DFA José Urquidy
Schultz was recalled Sept. 15 from Charlotte for bullpen work rather than starting. Urquidy, who had gone 2-1 with a 4.37 ERA in six games, was designated for assignment. The move appears aimed at clearing a 40-man spot for Drew Thorpe's looming reinstatement from Tommy John rehab; Tyler Davis was reinstated from the bereavement list Sept. 14 and optioned back to Charlotte.
Center fielder Tristan Peters emerges as a late-season offensive spark
Peters is hitting .333/.404/.634 over his last 104 plate appearances after an earlier slump, a central storyline in Chicago's turnaround from rebuild to first place. Bullpen depth (Grant Taylor, Shane Murphy, Tyler Schweitzer, Tyler Davis) and starter Erick Fedde nearing 150 innings have also been cited as factors in the run.
Every White Sox full-season affiliate finishes the second half with a winning record
Charlotte, Birmingham, Winston-Salem and Kannapolis all posted winning second-half marks; Birmingham missed the Southern League playoffs by two games despite its 35-34 mark. Winston-Salem leads the South Atlantic League Championship Series 1-0.
