Full Pirates roster wore No. 21 for Clemente Day series opener
All Pittsburgh players, managers and coaches wore Roberto Clemente's No. 21 for the Sept. 15 opener; Clemente family members joined pregame ceremonies, the Clemente Bridge was closed for a block party, and the first 21,000 fans received a bobblehead marking Clemente's 3,000th career hit.
Konnor Griffin reinstated as Pirates navigate late-season roster churn
Top prospect Griffin was reinstated from the 60-day IL Sept. 4 after two months out. RHP Kirby Yates (shoulder impingement), RHP Braxton Ashcraft (arm discomfort) and OF Esmerlyn Valdez (hamstring strain) have all gone on the IL in September under first-year manager Don Kelly.
Greensboro advances to South Atlantic League Championship; Altoona's season ends
Greensboro rallied from a 0-1 series deficit to beat Frederick and advance to face Winston-Salem for the league title. Altoona finished 61-77, while Indianapolis remains alive for an International League playoff spot.
